Condé Nast Introduces A Pink, Sparkly, Modeling-Themed ‘Game For Girls’

Want to try your hand at an America’s Next Top Model-style treacherous runway without having to endure catty fellow contestants or Tyra Banks‘s commands to smize your way to the top? Well, Condé Nast‘s Interactive Product Group has introduced a modeling game for iPhone and iPad users called Fashion Hazard in which users stomp the catwalk, and dodge obstacles like fallen models, red paint buckets (hi, PETA!), and hissing snakes.

According to the official Twitter page, Fashion Hazard is:

A new game for girls & young women that let’s you power the next runway star.

But why just for girls? Being one of those poor souls still in possession of a BlackBerry, I couldn’t attempt to play my way through the game myself, but I did check out their website for clues. If you can get past the superfluous comma in “The Chicest, New Game on The App Store.”, you will notice that there is indeed a male avatar offered! His name is Rob, he’s from St. Louis, MO (just like Karlie!), and he’s apparently a ladies’ man with a penchant for aphrodisiacs and a longing to be just like Hugh Hefner.

Other avatars bear similarly stereotypical characteristics. Gabrielle is the party chick from Scarsdale who admires Kate Upton and guzzles Red Bull Aspirins (that’s a thing, right?), while another is Elle,the girl-next-door from Kansas who would rather go to Disneyland and eat Dairy Queen. The premise of the game involves navigating the dangerous runways of New York, Milan, and Paris, and earning “Bling” to buy “Power-Ups” like photogeneity, energy drinks, or super stilettos.

Reviews on iTunes so far are overwhelmingly positive, calling Fashion Hazard “FIERCE!” “action packed,” and a “sassy, girlie game” that both pre-teens and moms can enjoy. But while we love us some harmless pink, glittery fun, it’s disappointing that young girls are once again being told that this is the pinnacle of femininity — their very own, glitzed-up version of the uber-popular treasure hunting app Temple Run.
