Calgary Celebrates Royal Visit With Tiny Cowboy Fascinators

Try this on for size. A group of Canadian friends were so excited over the royal visit coinciding with the Calgary rodeo festival this weekend that they decided to give the british fascinator a western twist.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will be in Canada this weekend for the Calgary Stampede, a ten day rodeo festival. The celebration is famous for its parades, cattle shows, and the cowboy hats attendants often sport. So, three Calgary natives decided to combine the classic cowboy look with the British hats by making cowboy hat fascinators.

Between Victoria Beckham’s chic blue hairpiece and Princess Beatrice’s Phillip Treacy accessory, fascinators were one of the most talked about fashion items at Will and Kate’s wedding.

“We just saw a fun opportunity. We didn’t want to make fun of it to insult the royals. It’s something to be worn as a tribute: a little British flair,” said Nancy Cherniwchan, one of the accessories’ creators.

The idea came to the friends two weeks ago and ever since they have been working around the clock to construct tiny bedazzled cowboy hats attached to headbands to sell before Will and Kate arrive in the town. “Stampede fascinators are a western tribute to the fun style worn by many to the wedding of the century. And it’s a great accessory to wear all of Stampede,” Cherniwchan explained.

The fascinators retail at $19.99 and only 500 of the handmade accessories will be sold. And while the idea is pretty cute, the only thing we can think of is TINY HATS.

Anyone else?
