Tom Ford‘s December issue of Vogue Paris is shaping up to be a doozy. In addition to putting himself on the cover and wearing a Native American headdress, Ford shot Crystal Renn for a perils of plastic surgery spread, styled by Carine Roitfeld and terrifying in both its fantasy and accuracy.
While we love that Renn has become Roitfeld’s model of choice, we do find it interesting that she’s been chosen for two back to back statement spreads — first the Terry Richardson lensed food-themed editorial, and now this. Is it because of Renn’s reputation as an insider-turned-outsider in the industry? Is it because of her outspokenness about the impact and influence fashion has on body image? Or is that as a former plus-size model in an industry obsessed with size zero, she has nothing to lose by challenging the status quo?
What do you think of Roitfeld’s use of Renn in these sorts of “edgy” spreads? And what do you think of the spread as a whole?
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
