We were in full-on cringe mode yesterday when we saw the first cover of Dasha Zhukova‘s new magazine Garage, for which a woman had her vagina tattooed to resemble a butterfly. And that woman says she has absolutely no regrets whatsoever about the painful procedure, or carrying around Hirst work around with her at all times for the rest of her life.
Model and illustrator Shauna Taylor told Page Six that she would have been crazy not to take advantage of the opportunity to have artist Damien Hirst tattoo her vagina. Because someday, she’s going to give birth through a work of art.
“I would have been stupid not to be part of this project. I have a piece of art on my vagina. Not one single person can ever say they gave birth through a Damien Hirst piece of art. I can [if I ever give birth].”
Call us pedantic for this observation if you want to, but while Hirst himself may have designed the tattoo, he didn’t ink the green and black decoration onto Taylor’s pudenda himself. He left that to professional tattoo artist Mo Coppoletta. At best, the tattoo isn’t a Hirst original. It’s more like a print.
But we digress. Taylor went on to say that she had hoped the procedure wouldn’t hurt, but that getting her most sensitive area tattooed “was probably the worst pain I have felt.” We wonder if giving birth through a work of art would hurt more?
