Fashion lover Daphne Guinness might not be going to the royal wedding, but she has a definite opinion of what Kate Middleton should wear when she walks down the aisle. The heiress wants the princess to wear Alexander McQueen.
It was reported just a few days ago that British Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman formally recommended McQueen, now designed by Sarah Burton, as the house that should design Middleton’s wedding dress. Guinness weighed in on the matter by way of an impassioned opinion piece in The Daily Telegraph. She wrote that McQueen would be an inspired choice for Middleton, an important milestone for Burton, and a major boost for the entire British fashion community. From her column:
In choosing Sarah Burton, Miss Middleton not only shows that she supports British designers but that she is also shedding her sweetly demure look for a more serious aesthetic. And if one cares to look under the surface for what her choice reveals, I would say it shows that Miss Middleton considers this a serious construction of a life that will be lived together, with all the intricacies that a shared life involves. A structured dress is an auspicious start, a dress that simultaneously says all of those things, but yet glories in its beauty.
While we don’t necessarily think the princess-to-be will give up on Issa after she dons McQueen — or whichever designer was tapped for the job of creating this dress — we are looking forward to seeing what she wears when she walks down the aisle on April 29.
