We love reading about fashion people and all their little eccentricities and peccadilloes. Think: Karl Lagerfeld and his love of porn, Dita von Teese and her lipstick maintenance, Lady Gaga and her predilection for crazy shoes. But every now and then, a fashion icon comes out with a statement so awesome, so over the top, we have to stop and laugh.
The Times of London revealed a lot of details about Daphne Guinness in a lengthy profile this weekend, but they certainly saved the best for last. After covering the time she wore Alexander McQueen’s armadillo shoes stuffed with newspaper because they were five sizes too big, and pointing out that she once suffered through a nearly punctured rib for love of a corset, they asked the fashion muse what she wears to work out. Her response:
“Not diamonds,” she laughs. “Normal stuff.
A Rick Owens white T-shirt and black leggings. I’m not high-maintenance.
In case you need a refresher, a Rick Owens t-shirt starts around $245, unless you’re lucky enough to snag one on sale, when they go for the bargain basement price of $147.
We’d make fun of her, but she closed that quote with the following:
“When I think my hair needs a bit of help, I just glue another bit on to my head.”
And, well, what can you say to that?
