Debbie Wasserman Schultz Accused Of Being ‘Unrecognizable’ In Vogue

Is there such a thing as looking too glamorous in a Vogue profile?

Some critics such think so, and are taking umbrage with newly-released shots of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, who also raised eyebrows earlier this year when she underwent a bit of a makeover before an MSNBC appearance, coloring and blowing out her signature curly locks.

This time around, publications like Washington’s The Hill are calling her “almost unrecognizable” in the October issue of Vogue, for which she was shot by photographer Marcus Mam. BuzzFeed spoke to Jonathan Beeton, Wasserman Schultz’s Director of Communications, who maintained that the complaints are much ado about nothing:

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz really is many working Moms throughout the country. They are at their kids’ softball practice in a t-shirt and shorts. They’re at work in a suit. In the times that they’re able to go out for a special occassion, they can put on a nice dress.”

The profile itself, which is not currently available online, likewise points to the many hats the Congresswoman wears: “To run the DNC in a presidential year, serve in the congressional leadership, manage a softball team and be a mother to three … requires preternatural energy, as well as a large number of costume changes.” This time, the costume just so happens to be a Derek Lam dress.

But what about you — do you think Vogue, well, pulled a Vogue and got a little overzealous with the Photoshop? Or do you think she looks great and everyone should just let it rest?
