From Beyoncé‘s showstopping (literally) performance to the Destiny’s Child surprise-but-not-quite reunion, last night’s Super Bowl half-time show was pretty epic. You can relive the magic in video form over here and keep reading for photographic evidence that, as Anderson Cooper has pointed out, “it’s her world and we’re just living in it”.
Queen B took to the stage in a custom Rubin Singer jacket, skirt, and leotard, and Proenza Schouler booties, only to toss the jacket and skirt into the crowd seconds after her performance began. Those were getting in the way of her come hither dance moves that we tried to replicate and failed hilariously. The leather, lace, python, and iguana leotard didn’t leave much to everyone’s imagination, and Singer, who has created custom pieces for Bey in the past, actually started sketching designs (see the original below) way back in November.
He wrote in a press release:
“Over the next two months there were no less than five fittings and well over 200-man hours with a team of 14 dedicated to creating the final look at the designer’s New York City atelier … The stage costumes are based on Singer’s upcoming fall 2013 collection entitled “Valkyrie’s Dominion.” In Norse mythology a Valkyrie is a female figure who decides which soldiers die in battle and which live. A woman with power, focus and unbridled sexuality, not unlike Ms. Knowles herself, was the starting point.”
Deliciously fitting, no? Singer also created the coordinating costumes for Michelle Williams (though hers was, as always, decidedly less revealing), and B’s 120 backup dancers. Kelly Rowland went rogue in an Emilio Pucci bodysuit with a plunging neckline.
After singing a medley of “Crazy in Love”, “Baby Boy”, “Bootylicious”, “Single Ladies”, and “Halo”, among others, Queen B received the biggest bear hug in the world backstage by hubbie Jay-Z, who also tweeted a cheeky “Lights out!!! Any questions??”, referencing her half-time show press conference.
But if the performance, the reunion, and the hug wasn’t enough to realize that this is the United States of Beyoncé, the singer wrote and uploaded a note onto her Tumblr praising her DC groupmates, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson. What a total class act, that Beyoncé.

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
