Why André Wasn’t Given A Screener For The Diana Vreeland Documentary

For those who’ve seen the documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel, Vogue‘s Anna Wintour and André Leon Talley are noticeably missing. Pourquoi? (For those who haven’t seen it, go watch it now!)

While fashion icons like Anjelica Huston and Lauren Hutton make cameos in the film, the two Vogue editors don’t appear or even give voice-overs. This certainly seems Bazaar bizarre, considering Wintour is the mag’s current top dog, and Talley was Vreeland’s mentee at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute and a close friend for years.

Director Lisa Immordino Vreeland told The Hollywood Reporter:

Vogue hasn’t touched the movie. [Talley] requested a well-known fashion scholar interview him, so I didn’t beg him.”

But it doesn’t just stop there: Talley requested a screener, but was shut down by the director. “We let him know he could buy a ticket like everybody else.”

Ouch.
