Von Teese, the red carpet staple known around the world for her glamorous retro wardrobe, has been working on the scent with Luxesse over the last few months. It will launch this fall in Australia in tandem with her new lingerie collection, and should be in American stores some time early next year. Von Teese told Women’s Wear Daily that while she’s not yet an olfactory wizard, she does know what smells good — her scent will include “Bulgarian rose, tiare, peony — and there’s a sexy wood” — and what doesn’t:
“There’s no fruity vanilla bull—t. I’m sorry, but you know what I mean? A lot of celebrity fragrances are fruit, vanilla, and I wanted something for grown-up girls.”
And with language like that denouncing the Fantasy’s and the Someday’s and the Love and Glamour’s on the market, there’s no way it could be anything but grown up.
So what inspired her to add to the already flooded market of celebrity-endorsed fragrances? Her boyfriend Count Louis-Marie de Castelbajac‘s mother, Marquise Catherine.
“My signature fragrance that I’ve been wearing since I was 14 is Quelques Fleurs, and I had to stop wearing it because my boyfriend’s mother wore it,” she explained. “So that was a perfect time to develop my own fragrance.”
And really, is there ever a good time to smell like your boyfriend’s mother? No, there is not.
