Do Stars Get Paid To Wear Jewelry?

“Borrowing” bling for awards shows has always seemed a bit nerve-wracking; there are a lot of people milling around a lot of diamonds, ones that are hopefully held together on starlets’ various extremities by very strong clasps. But actresses apparently get lucrative endorsements from big name jewelry houses to wear their pieces on the red carpet.

Attendees like Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, and Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly have been paid upwards of $500,000 for the — ahem — trouble of showcasing the gems of Louis Vuitton and Chopard. And sometimes, they even get to keep them.

It makes sense for the designers to take advantage of the spotlight, since these are ensembles that will be hashed and rehashed for the next few weeks and then some. But is that degree of financial incentive really necessary?

Let’s at least hope (for the sake of us watching the Golden Globes tonight) that they bring out the big sparkly guns this year.
