Nothing gets us tingling with excitement quite like seeing the cast of Downton Abbey in modern day garb. While we do get a little awestruck when Lady Mary is not wearing an opulent, drop-waist down and long opera gloves or Lady Edith looks sexy enough to court Matthew in an embellished mini, it’s kind of amazing to see the post-Edwardian female characters flaunting more skin than their husbands-to-be would see prior to their wedding night.
Last night, at a PBS event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the Crawley girls practically looked like fashion editors, flashing leg in blithely chic cropped styles. Michelle Dockery sported a red rouge and Elie Saab Resort 2013 short set with Jean-Michel Cazabat ‘Ella’ pointed black pumps. On the other hand Laura Carmichael certainly turned the heads of Lady Edith naysayers in a hot little tongue-in-cheek number from Moschino Cheap and Chic that boasted piano key pleats at its short hemline.
Then there was Joanne Froggatt, who always floors us when we see her outside of a housemaid’s uniform. We were especially struck by her Camilla & Marc Fall 2013 look, which called out to many of this season’s trends with its high-waisted, mixed-print skirt. Lastly, young Sophie McShera, a.k.a. Daisy, might have dated herself in this floral Zara midi dress, but with its cinched-at-the-waist silhouette it showed of her figure in a sophisticated manner that would surely impress the hard-to-please Dowager Countess.
View all the looks below, and be sure to let us know which lady of the house looked most impressive outside the walls of Highclere Castle.
