Eva Mendes is the latest actress with a fashion line, though hers comes in the form of a collaboration with New York & Co. Eva by Eva Mendes (for New York & Co. — don’t forget that part) will offer four collections a year — all of which are personally approved by Mendes herself.
Focusing on dresses, particularly those women can wear from “day-to-evening”, the collections will also include accessories. Mendes told Women’s Wear Daily:
“I love anything that winks to yesteryear. You have to find what works for you. Quite a few times I’ve worn turbanlike accessories. In this day and age where everybody has a stylist, I appreciate the kind of woman who steps out of the box. I love feeling like an individual. I want to share all these little tips with women.
“I have a ton of ideas, but it’s a bit early to discuss them,. [The project] is taking up all my time, but in the best way possible. Everything I see is a possible design. My mind is consumed by it. I’m fortunate enough to travel to so many exotic places. I could find inspiration in a gate in Istanbul for a plate or a blouse.”
As to why New York & Co. chose Mendes, CEO Greg Scott cites her red carpet style and the fact that the brand’s customers named her the celebrity they “most aspired to be”. We also aspire to be Mrs. Gosling, but can’t help but wonder if Scott, New York & Co., or their customers realize most of Mendes’ red carpet style comes, in fact, from Rachel Zoe. Then again, Mendes is no stranger to styling herself. Perhaps it was Donna Gosling’s look that sealed the deal.
