Like all production teams with a long lead time, the people behind 2011’s edition of Fashion’s Night Out are already hard at work smoothing out the details for this fall’s nighttime shopping extravaganza. And for the third installment of the now-global event, things are going down a little differently.
Most notably, FNO 2011 has opened its arms to e-commerce, and will allow online stores to get in on the fun of hosting events. WWD reports that shopping websites will be able to sign up and entertain people who prefer to stay at home (or who can’t get to one of the participating cities) with virtual experiences. The event is also teaming up with Polyvore so that users (and well-known fashion figures) can create sets of items from e-commerce sites that are participating in the digital event. You’ll be able to create your own set starting Aug. 15.
And what would any major fashion event be without its own clothing line? This year’s collection will include an FNO-branded baseball cap, a t-shirt, a tote bag and tops with colorful prints. The items will sell for between $15 and $40, with proceeds going to the NYC AIDS Fund.
The event is expected to take place on Sept. 8 in over 100 American cities. International editions of Fashion’s Night Out are also planned, but aren’t yet scheduled.
So, all you have to do now is decide whether you’re going out or staying at home, curled up with your laptop and not dealing with intense crowds of fashion- and celebrity-obsessed people who would just as soon trample across your shopping bags as look at you. What are you going to do?
