Garage Magazine might be a fashion magazine. Or it might be an art magazine. But whatever Dasha Zhukova‘s latest project is, one thing is for sure: it’s getting people talking.
The former POP editor’s new mag doesn’t drop until Fashion Week, but we already know quite a few details about the publication. For starters, Shala Monroque, Joan Juliet Buck, and Giovanna Battaglia (who did something involving fashion and food and McQueen-shaped lettuce) are all involved. Most intriguingly, Zhukova had a slew of capital-A Artists design tattoos for the issue. The designs were then inked on people and photographed for a spread. Yes, there are now people walking around with tats courtesy of Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, and Damien Hirst.
Hirst’s tattoo is arguably the most provocative, landing him one of the three covers. Hedi Slimane photographed a naked 23-year-old Shauna Taylor with a Hirst butterfly tattooed on her vagina. According to Jezebel: “Hirst’s butterfly wings appear on Taylor’s labia majora and mons pubis; her pudendal cleft forms the insect’s thorax and abdomen”. Taylor’s ladybits are covered with a peel-away green butterfly sticker à la Andy Warhol‘s iconic Velvet Underground cover.
Check out all of the covers below. In addition to the Hirst/Slimane cover, one features Prince’s sketch of his tattoo design, and the other is a Nick Knight photograph of a Dinos Chapman dollhouse replete with a Lily Donaldson puppet. Which one’s your favorite?
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
