7 Important Fashion Lessons From Girls Generation

Last night was the first ever YouTube Music Awards. It was weird. Lady Gaga wore decaying teeth grillz, Eminem won something, and Dree Hemingway played a suicidal philosopher who beats up Vanessa Hudgens. But what really shocked people was when K-pop group Girls Generation took out the top gong — music video of the year — for I Got a Boy. The majority of the audience had never heard of Girls Generation, let alone heard the song or watched the video.

This is an obvious failure on the the part of America considering the video is full of not only amazing synchronized dance moves but also amazing synchronized fashion. Below are seven tips about style, beauty, and even love, that you can learn from I Got a Boy.

1. No denim should be left unembellished.
Sample embellishments include, but are not limited to, rhinestones, candy, patches, stuffed animals and tassels.

This one is embellished with metallic accents and mini marshmallows yet still retains an intrinsic toughness.

2. Wedge sneakers are totally still a thing.
Even though they are totally still a scam.

3. Belly buttons are sassy and empowering.
Not desperate.

4. Embellish the underside of your hat with a pair of glued-on fake lips.
Subtle yet effective.

5. Also try to wear both a hat and a bandana at the same time.
This both looks stylish and keeps your hat from falling down over your eyes.

6. Always trust a boy wearing leather.
Particularly if he also has long hair. Mom was wrong.

7. Because he really just wants you to paint his fingernails.
This is how you will know it’s love.
