One way to pique interest in your magazine is to redesign the whole thing, and that’s exactly what both Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour plan to do in the new year.
The new Harper’s Bazaar will debut in March. According to WWD, “the magazine will be unrecognizable from what it looks like today”. We hope they still put out amazing photographs! We also wonder just how different the magazine can get in order to become “unrecognizable” while not confusing or alienating readers. Interestingly, the redesign will also involve an increase in size, a novelty in this world of the shrinking magazine.
Two design firms are helping Glamour with its new look, which will also be unveiled in March. The magazine intends to shift its focus more sharply towards pop culture, and plans to up its trendiness factor.
Other changes in the print world? Vanity Fair has brought in some new blood to its art department, a horrible-sounding magazine called Reality Weekly has launched, and Hearst is developing a women’s fashion e-commerce site.
