We don’t mean to brag, but it’s a beautiful time to be visually impaired.
As luck would have it, we’d been in the market for a new pair of specs when we serendipitously stumbled into the Warby Parker winter press preview last month. It was there that we sipped hot toddies and first laid our nearsighted peepers on their collaboration with stylist Leith Clark — you’ll recognize her work from Harper’s Bazaar U.K., Italian Vogue, and her baby Lula magazine. She dreamed up five vintage-inspired spec styles inspired an arbitrary list of things we just happen to love too.
“I like the 1960s, librarians, nerdy girls. I like glasses you had when you were a kid — or that your dad wore when you were a kid — and wearing them now,” explains Clark. “I like Bergman. Big thick glasses on a little, tiny face. When there are etchings or engravings or magically-made materials. I like pearls, brass, opera glasses. Everything being all violet. I like seeing the world with a pretty pink tint to it.”
We fell in love with the Wednesday Noir frames as they made a catlike statement, while still being plausible for everyday wear — and they weren’t the only pair to catch our wandering eyes. In addition to the smoky noir pieces, there were the round crystal clear Greta designs, winter white pearl Aroras, cobalt leaf print Marvas, and tortoise shell Aldabras.
At $145 a piece, the saccharine specs are a steal, but they’re even more of a no-brainer when you consider that a percentage from each sale will go to Girl Up, a United Nations Foundation campaign mobilizing American girls to raise awareness and funds for UN programs that provide life-changing opportunities to girls around the world. If you’re thinking of gifting a pair to yourself or a loved one keep Warby Parker’s Home Try-On option in mind. It allows you to take 5 styles for a test drive over 5 days at no cost. We repeat, NO-BRAINER. View all the styles, below, and shop them at warbyparker.com.
