There’s no shortage of things people who haven’t been invited to fashion week will do to get in, but this one takes the cake. Apparently two random guys told organizers at the tents they needed to get in to secure the area for the arrival of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Page Six reports that the two imposter body guards were wearing fake government lapel pins and insisted that they were escorting Cuomo to the runway presentations for Charlotte Ronson and Popluxe (the line designed by Richie Rich) at Lincoln Center. They also offered to put little sachets of an “unknown herbal remedy” into the gift bags at those shows, saying that it was a gift from the Cuomo.
Naturally the black-clad, earpiece-wearing public relations warriors who man the tents saw right through the pretenders’ antics and sent them away, to which we can only say bravo. If Cuomo had been slated to attend a show, the entire place would have gone on lockdown before his arrival. We were in the tents Friday night around the time Ronson’s show was starting, and we saw nothing unusual going on. A spokesman for the governor told Page Six that the gift-bearing wannabes were “obviously not affiliated with the administration or with the governor.”
But we still hope that one day, when Gov. Cuomo does make it to Fashion Week, he’ll come bearing gifts.
