The red carpet at the Grammys is always unpredictable, but this year’s Gaga-free pre-show was surprisingly tame. Nary an egg to be seen, the night’s biggest names stormed the step ‘n repeat in — dare we say it? — almost Oscar-ready ensembles.
First off, Rihanna stole the show in a ravishingly red, custom-designed gown by Azzedine Alaïa. Despite the slight similarities to several pieces in Gucci‘s 2011 collection, the fit, styling, and cut were just spot-on. (Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about her date.)
Beyoncé was equally stunning in a black and white jumpsuit by British designer and Central Saint Martins alum Osman Yousefzada. She accessorized with black peep-toes and a Swarovski clutch, and finished her look with a bold red lip and sleek ponytail. With Bey’s endorsement, there’s no doubt that Yousefzada is about to become one of the most sought after designers this year.
See those looks, plus Florence Welch in a 2009 Givenchy gown, Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford, Kelly Rowland in a super sexy Georges Chakra Couture gown that paid little heed to CBS‘ silly wardrobe memo, and more:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
