The last thing we’d ever want to call Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter is square, but it’s not an adjective he’s afraid to apply to himself. Carter jokingly called himself square because, even though he co-hosted the Christie’s Bid to Save The Earth auction this week, he had never heard of its surprise musical guest, Nicki Minaj.
Carter told Page Six all the credit for hiring Minaj to perform goes to Sylvana Soto-Ward, the former assistant to Anna Wintour who’s now Vogue‘s director of special events. We’re guessing Soto-Ward hired Minaj because she’s very of-the-moment and wanted to inject a little fun into what we hear was a very blue-blood, wealthy New York society kind of event.
But in case Carter (or anyone else out there) is still looking for an explanation as to who this young woman is, he should probably listen to what she has to say about herself. (Author’s note: If you’re somewhere where vulgarities shouldn’t be heard, we’d put in some headphones or turn the volume down before clicking play. This lady gets loud.)
