September is looking like a fashionable month for Halle Berry. First the actress snagged the cover of Vogue’s coveted September issue, and now Women’s Wear Daily reports that Berry is scheduled to play one of the four sole-happy protagonists in the film adaptation of “Shoe Addicts Anonymous,” a best-selling novel by Beth Harbison.
The film takes place in Chicago — D.C. in the novel — where four girls with entirely different backgrounds bond over their love for shoes and personal dramas. The film is set to shoot in Chicago and Michigan this fall, and producer Mark Bozek of Galgos Entertainment said the chick flick will be “more ‘First Wives’ Club’ than ‘Sex and the City'” — and maybe for a younger demographic, we hope?
Comedy is new for Berry, who one an Oscar for her dramatic chops in 2002’s “Monster’s Ball”. Bozek told WWD that Berry agreed to the film because “she related to it:”
“She gets all these serious parts and said, ‘Nobody thinks of me as a comedic actress’ but she’s really funny. She also loves shoes.”
The story stars four powerful women — but of the four, which would best suit Ms. Berry? Helene Zeharis, because she’s a shoe addict who, in five inch stilettos, desperately tries to escape her loveless political figure husband.
