Harper’s Bazaar Wins Magazine Cover Of The Year Award

We will admit to having had some doubt in Harper’s Bazaar in the past — when they shot a fashion story with Bristol Palin and her son Tripp, for example, we were more amused than anything else. Then again, when they styled Rachel Zoe dying for her favorite designers, we were seriously impressed.

But it seems to have been a year with more hits than misses, because yesterday Glenda Bailey‘s book won the Magazine Cover of the Year Award from the American Society of Magazine Editors.

The contest, which asks Amazon.com users vote for their favorite covers, separates nominated covers into different categories. This year those included a Best Science and Technology over, a Most Delicious Cover and (of course) a Best Vampire Cover.

Bazaar was nominated for (of course) the Best Vampire Cover for its December 2009 cover featuring Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (which went on to win Cover of the Year); Best in Entertainment and Celebrity for the Rachel Zoe-styled April 2010 cover with Demi Moore and a giraffe; Best in Fashion and Beauty for Agyness Deyn‘s Sept. 2009 cover; and for the Sexiest cover for the January front featuring Kate Hudson wearing a Pucci dress with the deepest neckline ever known to fashion.

Notably, GQ was nominated four times and won twice, but none of the nominations or wins were for fashion categories. It took the prize for Best in Lifestyle and Best in Entertainment and Celebrity, getting nods for Sexiest and Most Controversial. Elle got a nomination for Best In Fashion and Beauty for its Jan. 2010 Lady Gaga cover.

So, congratulations to Harper’s Bazaar — we hope you’ll keep up the good work!
