In a sea of Armani, Dior, and diamonds at the Oscars pre-show, there was one dress that swept onto the red carpet with a label that most of us actually have in our closets. Actress and nominee Helen Hunt, who received a nod from the Academy this year for playing a sex surrogate in the film The Sessions, wore a custom navy blue gown from, of all places, H&M.
Hunt told Ryan Seacrest that she opted for the look because she liked its “accessibility,” and because she’s a fan of the work the retailer has done with Global Green USA, an environmental sustainability funding group that she supports.
While it doesn’t quite deliver the “wow” factor of some of the other (more expensive, of course) frocks in the crowd around it — stay tuned for those later — it’s a classic shape that Hunt pulls off easily, and we think it’s a great message to send to viewers everywhere drooling over unattainable couture.
Do you think the less expensive alternative was the right way to go? Or are you hoping Hunt loses out on the statue, just so her dress won’t be immortalized in the winner’s circle? Click through the gallery to see more detail, and watch other celeb red carpet arrivals in the clip below.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
