In case you had any lingering doubts that France and Italy are the chicest countries of them all, let us take this opportunity to put them to rest.
Hermès, everyone’s favorite purveyor of five-figure handbags (sorry, McQueen), has signed on to kit out France’s equestrian team for the Summer Olympics, which begin in London exactly one week from today (!!!). We’re sure the showmen are thrilled about their new gold medal gear, especially since the house hasn’t outfitted Olympians since 1996 Games in Atlanta, GA.
And while you might think uniforms couldn’t possibly get any fancier than that, WWD reports that Salvatore Ferragamo will be dressing athletes from Italy’s independent microstate of San Marino in such threads as silk crepe dresses, cashmere turtlenecks, and pin striped suits. From the runway to the racetrack, or so it seems. Oh, and not to worry all of you Sammarinese readers (and we’re sure there are many of you) — Ferragamo goods are made in Italy, down to the very last billfold.
We just hope the lucky athletes take pity on their fellow competitors. After all, Spain’s athletes have no choice but to sport their Liberace-by-way-of-McDonald’s threads and Team USA now has to worry about being poisoned by their “Made in China” gear, so this is hardly a fair fight.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
