Exclusive: Hilaria Thomas Baldwin On Glamour’s New Latina Magazine

Glamour just launched a new Latina-focused magazine, Glam Belleza Latina. To celebrate the debut, editor Veronica Chambers and contributing editor Hilaria Thomas Baldwin hosted a SoulCycle session last night, and we got the chance to chat beauty — inside and out.

Chambers told us during a juice reception before the sweat-filled ride (more on that later!):

“At Glamour, one of the things we knew was that our Latina readers love this magazine and are really into beauty stuff. At Glamour, beauty is just one small segment, but we know that [Latinas] love makeup, they love hair, they love fragrance, and all that sort of stuff, so just to be able to focus on that is a really fun opportunity.”

The debut issue of the quarterly magazine features Jennifer Lopez on the cover, and contributions from Natalie MoralesNarciso Rodriguez, and Isabel and Ruben Toledo inside. The mag is a 250,000 print run, and Glamour readers who have identified themselves as Latinas will be sent the digest-sized issues with their regular issues of Glamour. Or in Chambers’ own words, a “nice little surprise.” The magazines will also be on the newsstand in major cities like New York, Miami, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Contributing editors, like Thomas Baldwin herself, reveal their health and beauty tips, and the magazine is dotted with Spanish phrases and words that a non-Spanish speaking readers like ourselves understood. “It’s in Spanglish,” Thomas Baldwin explained.

“It’s mostly in English, but has a little Spanish in there. Like abuela and guapa. And a lot of Latinas and Latinos — they actually don’t speak Spanish. So I think this is gonna appeal to their culture and background, but not confuse them. They’ll still be able to read it.”

Also in the first edition, the yoga instructor shares her health and beauty tips, and trust us when we say that the girl knows what she’s talking about:

“I feel like there should be a balance between wellness and glamour, so it’s not just about what you’re putting on your face but you really have to focus on what you’re doing to your body in order to be beautiful.”

Check out snaps from the event below, and stay tuned for a recap of our sweaty and awkward SoulCycle ride:
