We like to think we have a fairly high tolerance for celebrity clothing lines, but this one really takes the cake. Hilary Swank — she of Boys Don’t Cry and consistently good, if relatively innocuous red carpet dresses — is working on what WWD described as “an apparel collection with an athletic bend.” Oh, dear.
This follows last month’s news that Swank was working on a fashion-focused game show for the CW — which would beg the question: what’s with Swank’s new fashion obsession? Except for the fact that Zooey Deschanel is currently suing Steve Madden over a verbal contract in which he agreed to pay her $2 million for 13 days of work on a “shoes and accessories” line. In other words, we already know the answer: money.
According to WWD, Swank is working with DMA Designers Management Agency — the same people behind Amar’e Stoudemire’s deal with Rachel Roy and Macy’s — on a “contemporary, outdoor, athleisure brand”, which was inspired by Swank’s gymnastic background and, we suppose, love of comfortable clothing.
No word yet on who the actual designer in the partnership will be, but our money is on DKNY. What do you think?
