We don’t have a magic crystal ball with which we can see into the future — we imagine such a thing could only belong to the likes of Karl, Anna, and Carine — but we do believe ourselves to possess a certain sixth sense when it comes to models on the horizon of hitting it big, like real big. Unfortunately, since Cara Delevingne began he reign of awesomeness over the industry, we haven’t felt our spidey senses tingle — that is until yesterday when Hollie-May Saker, the same 18-year-old model who brushed off a pair of topless protesters on Nina Ricci’s runway, tweeted this:
Can’t stand some of the other models at shows…You’re walking for some of the worlds greatest designers.. Crack a smile ungrateful bitch.
— Hollie-May Saker (@holliemaysaker) September 26, 2013
It was a classic case of someone saying something everyone else is thinking, except in a very public manner. Her candor reminds us of Delevingne’s, but it’s far more scrappy and completely unfiltered. This became all the more clear following her run-in with FEMEN, as she decided to let loose her frustrations to the press.
“I was so angry but I knew I had to be professional so I carried on walking with a bit of sassiness,” Saker told the Mirror. “My Scouseness came out a bit but I wish it had come out a bit more. Thinking about it now I wish I’d pushed them both off the stage because they ruined my favourite show.”
Although some naysayers might write Saker off as childish, we always find it refreshing when those in the public eye are in favor of outspokenness versus being force fed lines from a publicist. Many models would likely be too afraid to put their careers on the line by being honest or controversial. Of course this isn’t always the case, and one of the best examples of this is Naomi Campbell, whose unapologetic approach to life has made her notorious.
Aside from Saker’s recent run-ins with controversy, and Twitter feed ripe with juicy retweet potential, Saker has been a mainstay of all the most buzzed about shows of this fashion month, from Marc Jacobs to Burberry to Sonia Rykiel (she opened the show to boot). Additionally, her Instagram is proof that she’s also palling around with Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger on the regular, which means that it’s only a matter of time before she starts amassing thousands of followers by the second.
Paris Fashion Week is only half over, and if what we’ve seen so far is any indication, Saker will be giving us plenty more spectacle. So when this young Liverpool girl lands her first major cover, we’ll totally be saying we told you so.
