Remember last year when everyone got all personally offended because Kate Moss smoked a cigarette during Marc Jacobs‘ fall 2011 show for Louis Vuitton? Well in 1988 that wouldn’t have been a big deal — back then, Karl Lagerfeld shoved Ines de la Fressage down the runway with a lit ciggy and for the most part everyone was all smiles.
We guess that’s just a sign of the times — or maybe it was just a tribute to Coco Chanel herself that no one wanted to question? The designer was apparently never without cigarettes, and in her short hair, black trousers and pearls, De la Fressange looks less like a model and more like Madamoiselle walking around her atelier, puffing her instructions to everyone assembled. Sigh.
Anyway, we haven’t seen a runway show in the past few seasons that looks as fun as this one — and we don’t expect we will. Start the video for the scandalous inhalation of tobacco, and stay to see a young Veronica Webb strut her stuff in a floral-print skirt.
