It’s A Brad, Brad Word Recap: Brad Goes To Queens!

This week’s episode of It’s a Brad, Brad World was all about family and very light on fashion and styling. In this episode, Brad Goreski’s mom and sister were still in town, and visited Gary Janetti’s parents, sister, and nieces in Queens. Brad and Gary’s parents hadn’t met yet in the course of their ten-year relationship, and there was a bit of hand fluttering and anxiety over how it would go. Luckily, Gary and his Italian family are chatterboxes and Brad’s mom and sister are Canadian, which is basically a recipe for a drama-free meeting.

Brad and Gary were also good sports and took Brad’s family on one of those awful bus tours through New York City, though Gary nearly eye-rolled himself into an aneurysm at the tour guide’s bad jokes. They also had lunch together at a pizza parlor (more bad jokes, more eye-rolling) where they discussed an upcoming anniversary party, which will probably anchor a future episode. They are still in the earliest stages of planning at the moment, and Brad’s suggestion that they “make [their] backyard look like a Greek island” in an homage to the place where they met was shot down by Gary, who deadpanned, “That is so… gay.”

Speaking of gay, Brad is writing a memoir and met with his co-author in this episode, where he opened up and shared some harrowing stories from his youth. Growing up in Oshawa, he struggled with his family’s reluctance to accept him and intense harassment from his peers for most of his adolescence. In a very honest and vulnerable moment, he explained to his co-author, and us, that he went through a dark period of drinking and drug use that might have ended very badly if he hadn’t been able to stop.

Brad’s new assistant Lindsay was in LA by episode’s end, and it looks like we’ll be seeing a brand new office in later episodes. Brad also took his family to watch his appearance on The Nate Berkus Show (R.I.P.!) and took them shopping at Tory Burch. One might think a styling session between a professional and his family members would result in a lot of tears and recriminations, but it was surprisingly sweet. You can see a clip of their shopping trip below.
