Memo To Bravo: Brad Goreski Is Not Struggling!

Brad Goreski, I am still deeply in love with you, because you are eminently loveable, but goodness gracious the “struggling stylist” arc on your show needs to die!

In last night’s episode, the second for his new show, Goreski did an off-camera fitting for Jessica Alba for the Met Ball, styled a shoot for Gilt Man (a subsidiary of Gilt Groupe), and pitched an editorial to Details that they decided to run in their September issue. Oh, and he hired an assistant because he’s too busy to manage his own calendar anymore. Why, oh why are we being asked to believe that Brad is struggling? He is building his own client base, sure, and working on raising his profile as a solo stylist, but to have this much going on in the second episode of the show makes his anxiety about “making it” as a stylist seem hysterical at best and disingenuous at worst. It is by far the weakest part of the show.

As in the premiere, the best parts of this episode were Brad’s bon mots and seeing him in his element at the Gilt Man shoot. We also got to meet Brad’s mother and sister, who visited him in New York and were joined by Gary Janetti at episode’s end. Gary was a welcome presence, and dealt with Brad’s tears of joy over getting the Details shoot hilariously (“Why’re you crying??…Just don’t cry in the restaurant. Because people will be eating.”). It was lovely to see what a supportive and sweet family Brad has in his boyfriend, sister and mom. Also, having family around meant we were treated to some photos of young Brad sporting some questionable threads. You can see these photos, and watch Brad reminisce with his family about the time he dressed as Madonna for Halloween, in the clip below:
