Okay, Jane Aldridge, we get it. You like shoes. Really amazing shoes. We appreciate your sense of style, but sometimes we think you lack an awareness of it all. It’s not that you don’t appreciate the Chanel pumps that were gifted to you during your fitting for the Crillon Ball, but you don’t really acknowledge how remarkable that is. Whereas Tavi is all, “OMG, Miuccia sent me the most amazing skirt — this is the coolest ever!”, you are all, “Yeah, I have closets full of this stuff.” Which we guess makes sense, because you do.
The folks over at StyleLikeU put together a video interview of Jane and her mom Judy, that is alternately interesting and frustrating. There seems to be little acknowledgment of the 18-year-old’s fairly unlimited resources, though Jane did try to diffuse the air of conspicuous consumption by explaining that she bought her Dolce & Gabbana jacket when it went on sale at Neiman Marcus (at their outlet, Judy chimes in). Perhaps we’re not giving the Aldridge ladies enough credit though, as The Cut did find this choice quote from Judy:
Jane and I both feel that we’re sick of buying. I’m just tired of it. It does feel like we’re moving in a different frame of mind as far as being consumers, I imagine a lot of people are feeling this way. We spent an entire decade based on consumption and it’s just too much. It’s time to think about what’s really important in life, get back to basics, and work with what you have.
