Apparently fashion, unlike the human brain, doesn’t like to take it easy on Mondays. For proof look no further than today’s double dose of industry shakeups. Chapter Three in the saga is titled Jason Wu Goes to Boss, in which Hugo Boss calls Wu to the helm of Boss Womenswear as artistic director.
Effective June 15, this is a newly established function within the Boss Group that will see Wu work with the design team in Germany as well as open a design studio in New York. Pre-Fall 2014 will give us the first look at Boss Womenswear á la Wu, with a New York Fashion Week runway show to follow in February for fall/winter 2014.
Wu obviously isn’t afraid of heading in different directions. The FLOTUS favorite veered down the dominatrix route for Spring 2013, and was dressing drag queen RuPaul (albeit in miniature) long before he dressed Lindsey Wixson.
“With the state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the Hugo Boss design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear,” Wu stated via press release. He’ll continue to develop his eponymous ready-to-wear and accessories lines as usual.
