We all thought Jenna Lyons‘s Met Gala outfit consisted of a regular denim jacket and Schiaparelli pink skirt, but turns out that there’s more than meets the eye. She took to J. Crew‘s Tumblr to reveal the many secrets behind her ensemble.
Lyons sketched the skirt during a meeting just two weeks before the Met Gala, and a patternmaker draped the design right in J. Crew’s offices in New York. There’s a slight peplum shape at the hip because Lyons saw the silhouette in Schiaparelli’s Shocking Life. The bow also has a wire inside to maintain the shape and keep it from flopping around.
Of course, Lyons’s outfit wouldn’t be complete a J. Crew staple; thus, the denim jacket:
“I didn’t want to wear duchesse silk satin with something sparkly or pearls. I am who I am — so I took it down a notch with denim. We pulled a J.Crew jean jacket and then had it fit and re-tailored to raise the waistband. I’m also not really wearing a shirt underneath — the collar and cuffs were custom-made by my custom shirtmaker and were stitched into the jacket.”
Well, it’s a good thing one of her buttons didn’t pop open!
