We can’t pretend we’re not bothered by the fact that Jennifer Lawrence ceaselessly has to address her weight in the media. On the same token, she is one of the only young women in Hollywood who’s actually doing her part to address the industry’s ridiculous standards when it comes to beauty, especially physique.
“It was just the kind of shit that actresses have to go through. Somebody told me I was fat, that I was going to get fired if I didn’t lose a certain amount of weight. They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet. They thought that because of the way my career had gone, it wouldn’t still hurt me.”
She then went on to become even more of a hero than she already is:
“If anybody even tries to whisper the word ‘diet, I’m like, ‘You can go fuck yourself.”
Preach, girl. As members of another looks-conscious industry, we can’t commend Lawrence’s candor enough. We’ve never been the ones shying away from the sliders at a fashion party, nor do we ever plan to be, but we’d be lying if we said there isn’t pressure to bow out in favor of seltzer.
Fortunately, we now find ourselves all the more armed against mini-hamburger neasayers, with a ‘You can go fuck yourself,” retort at the ready.
