There are many reasons we love Jennifer Lawrence — she plays kickass Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games, she’s stunning, and she’s real. We mean real real, as in she’s not afraid to speak her mind. Case in point: her B.S.-free Elle cover story.
Lawrence wears Balenciaga on the cover and a handful of fancy designer clothes inside the December issue, but what’s most interesting is the mag’s interview with the 22-year-old star. She shot to fame with her role in the Hunger Games, but with that fame also came criticism, most of which focused on her weight. Katniss is supposed to be a poor and starving hunter, and critics have said that Lawrence was too “big” or “shapely” to play such a character.
Of course, Lawrence brushed the dirt off her shoulders, and people like Stanley Tucci (who’s also in the film) told critics to bug off. The subject was brought up once again in Elle, and unlike stars such as Anne Hathaway, who went through crazy gym sessions and diets for The Dark Knight Rises and Les Misérables, Lawrence explains that she would never slim down for a role:
“I eat like a caveman, I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumors. In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress, I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach…I’m never going to starve myself for a part… I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner. That’s something I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed.”
And that’s why you rule, JLaw.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
