Red carpet looks don’t get much more memorable than the diaphanous, plunging Versace dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. These days, we barely blink an eye at awards shows when Lady Gaga rolls up in an egg or Nicki Minaj arrives arm in arm with her friend the Pope, but back then, J. Lo’s down-to-there neckline was the stuff front page headlines were made of. But what has become of that attention-grabbing garment?
Well, Lopez covers the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, and inside the issue the powerhouse performer fills Laura Brown in on its current whereabouts:
“I have that at home. The other day, my housekeeper put it on a mannequin in my spa, where I get my hair and makeup done. She sent me a picture. She was like, ‘You like this dress?’ Um, yeah, but I don’t know if I like it out in the house!”
Perhaps she doesn’t want her 4-year-old daughter Emme getting any ideas? “Oh, God, no!” she exclaims when Brown jokingly suggests that the gown may one day make a good hand-me-down.
We don’t think Lopez should be too concerned though. If $2,500 worth of brand new, butterfly-embellished Chanel accessories left Emme this nonplussed, we’re sure she wouldn’t be all that interested in secondhand designer gear, anyways.
Pick up the issue on newsstands January 15, and check out the Katja Rawles-lensed photos and behind-the-scenes video below:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
