French fashion bigwig Pierre Denis is headed over to Jimmy Choo, effective immediately. Denis was formerly an executive at John Galliano, though his exact position at the company seems to be up for debate, given all of the contradictory reporting this morning.
WWD claims he was Galliano’s general manager, while both the Telegraph and Denis’ own Linkedin profile name him as chief executive officer. Whatever his title was, however, he’s now 100% in Choo’s head spot, last held by current Bergdorf’s CEO Joshua Schulman.
Reinhard Mieck, head of Choo parent company Labelux, sung Denis’ praises in the statement issued this morning announcing his appointment:
“We are delighted to welcome an executive of Pierre’s caliber to the Labelux family. With his unrivalled experience of the international luxury sector and keen understanding of our business, Pierre is without question the right person to drive forward the Jimmy Choo business and exploit the enormous growth potential of what is an exceptional brand.”
Well at least he’s certainly got plenty of experience managing a brand with a rumor-plagued ex-designer. And who knows, this might be an important factor in the coming months, since Choo’s former creative director Tamara Mellon is said to be starting a major new lifestyle venture. Lord knows speculation surrounding Galliano hasn’t slowed down since he left his namesake label in 2011, and his recent dinner date with Anna Wintour only stoked the fires about where he’ll land next.
