Joan Smalls Looks Every Bit The Supermodel On W‘s July Cover

Joan Smalls is really, frighteningly beautiful. Which is why we’re extra pleased that W made her their July cover girl — though reports do indicate that fellow model Karlie Kloss will have her own cover as well. We’re also looking forward to have her kohl-rimmed eyes replace Tom Cruise and the guyliner that has been staring us down at the newsstand for weeks. Well done all around, W!

The inside editorial, called “Super Modern, Super Models” is classic shot-in-studio Steven Meisel, which means Kloss and Smalls are jumping around against a gray backdrop. Not particularly thrilling, but at least the girls are pros with the posing. We particularly like Karlie’s figure skater-esque move in the last shot.

Also, Meisel hasn’t shot the cover of W since 2004, so we’re glad fashion director Edward Enninful is bringing him back into the fold, even if his studio spreads do tend to make one think automatically of Vogue.
