WWD reports that Galliano will sit for an hour-long interview/grill session with broadcast journalist Charlie Rose this Wednesday. His publicist, Liz Rosenberg, was attracted to the intimate format of Rose’s show, which is famously bereft of commercial breaks and lighting, as well as the relationship the host has with Oscar de la Renta, who remained supportive of Galliano through the media shitstorm following his anti-Semitic tirade.
Earlier this year, de la Renta invited Galliano to a three-week residency at his design studio in an attempt to plunge him back into the world of fashion. “Charlie Rose has a very close relationship with Oscar,” Rosenberg told WWD. “Oscar had been talking to John about the possibility of doing an interview with Charlie.”
In the Vanity Fair piece Galliano revealed the sobering backstory behind his drunken outburst. “I now realize I was so f**king angry and so discontent with myself that I just said the most spiteful thing I could,” he told VF contributing editor Ingrid Sischy. “At first alcohol was like a crutch outside of Dior… But with more collections, the crash happened more often, and then I was a slave to it. Then the pills kicked in because I couldn’t sleep.”
Anyone know how many calories there are in two large servings of humble pie? We’re all for turning over a new leaf, but it’d be sad if he no longer fits into those pirate costumes.
