You would think that a man who’s as heavily photographed as Johnny Depp would be comfortable with getting his picture taken. You would also think he would have enough media training to know when to say the right thing. But in light of a recent pronouncement of his, we’re going to have to believe that that’s not the case at all.
That’s because Depp told Vanity Fair‘s Nick Tosches in an interview that being photographed professionally (like for a magazine, or something) feels like being raped. We take it to mean metaphorical rape, since as far as we can tell Depp has never been the subject of sexual assault himself. But we’ll let him explain:
“Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man.” He’ll pose with fans, “But whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb. It’s just so stupid.”
Huh. Wonder if he made this statement before or after he did the shoot for VF. Although to be completely fair, Terry Richardson did take this picture, and we can imagine that anyone who goes to his studio feels a little uneasy.
But let us ask you this, America: would you take a look at some of Depp’s past professional pictures and tell us if you think he looks like he’s being ravaged against his will? Because for the most part, he looks just fine to us.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
