There’s a new kind of sexy in town. When reports surfaced that British women hit the pinnacle of attractiveness at 31, it got us thinking. Maybe the rest of the world was finally catching up with the idea that with age comes a sort of sexiness that one can only acquire through years. And now up and coming designer Joseph Altuzarra is taking this idea and running with it.
“A lot of my pieces are about easy seductiveness and accessibility in terms of showing skin. I’ve been speaking to a lot of women in their Forties and Fifties and they want to look sexy – I think it’s quite a new thing and at the moment, there isn’t a lot out there for them. Seductiveness isn’t just for girls in their Twenties anymore. Azzedine Alaia is the most prevailing label that makes women look and feel sexy whatever their age.”
It’s true — we love young designers and young models. But we’re also aware of the elegance, sexiness, and wisdom that comes with age. Think about it — Mad Men, Helen Mirren, Betty White. There’s a new type of sexy standard to live up to, and we applaud Altuzarra — such a fresh, young designer — for taking a risk and speaking to a usually sidelined audience.
