Wait, is Kanye showing at New York Fashion Week? This is a question we need answered right here, right now.
According to Grazia‘s “excellent sources”, Kanye is working on a spring womenswear collection that he intends to debut in New York come September. He reportedly has studios in NYC, Paris, and London, where he has employed knitwear guru Louise Goldin to spearhead design. He has also solicited advice from Central St. Martins bigwig Louise Wilson.
We just don’t know what to believe! Sure, Kanye LOVES Fashion Week (and also fashion news and fashion friends), and it makes sense that he would want to show in the States for his first go-around. But does this mean he’s really making his fashion dreams a reality? Like, beyond those pretty scarves?
The rapper has been under the radar as of late — his once-hyperactive Twitter account was dormant from March until the Fourth of July. We assumed this was because he’s been readying his much-anticipated album with Jay-Z (and Riccardo Tisci), though maybe he’s also busy with this fashion venture.
Let’s say this is actually going down. Where would Kanye show his collection? Lincoln Center? Milk Studios? Probably not. We have to imagine he would pick some amazing and/or ridiculous third-party downtown venue and create yet another locus of fashion madness during the jam-packed week. We just really hope he doesn’t go the Tom Ford route and get all secretive on us. Oh, also, we need an invite to the show. This is non-negotiable.
