Only Karl Lagerfeld could convince two of the most fiercely independent fashion stars to abandon their personas and adopt each other’s. Lagerfeld photographed his longtime friend Daphne Guinness and personal and professional muse Amanda Harlech for the upcoming issue of V Magazine.
The shoot took place in the Kaiser’s studio in Paris’ 7th arrondissement, and featured a blonde Harlech and brunette Guinness. As if the concept wasn’t intriguing enough already, WWD reports Derek Blasberg as observing:
“The typically bold Amanda, now posing as Daphne in front of Lagerfeld’s lens, appeared timid, her movements angular. The often-shy Daphne became bolder and more fluid.”
Similarly, Harlech herself added:
“When I walked out on set with my blonde hairpieces, Karl burst out laughing and said I looked like a hausfrau. I won’t be doing it again, but secretly I did love the allure of Daphne’s blondeness. It was like playing the princess role instead of always being the witch.”
While we don’t agree with Harlech’s perception of herself as “the witch”, we can’t wait to see her as this blonde “hausfrau”. Plus, anything that’s entertaining enough to make Karl laugh will undoubtedly be a creative gold mine.
