This morning, right after I posted the H&M lookbook images starring none other than Karlie Kloss, my dad BBMed (yes, he’s hip like that!) to inform me that Kloss’s prom picture was in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
You see, Karlie is a hometown hero of sorts. In fact, when I met her during Fashion Week, we chatted all about our native St. Louis, Missouri. Everything about the top model’s prom sounds awesome, and totally in keeping with what it’s like to be a suburban St. Louis teenager going to their last big dance of high school. (Karlie is a senior at Webster Groves High School, though the in-demand fashion professional is now enrolled in the school’s independent study program since she travels so often.)
Here are the deets, according to the Post‘s Deb Paterson:
It came as no surprise to family, faculty and friends when the 6-foot glamour queen attended Saturday’s prom with 5-foot-6-inch Gabe Smith, one of her best friends since the two were tots playing together in mom’s day out programs and at pre-school. Smith, 17, who makes his money mowing lawns, umpiring baseball games and dog-sitting, insisted on buying Kloss’ ticket to the prom and drove them in his father’s ’07 Ford Fusion four-door sedan. They left Kloss’s silver Land Rover, which she bought for herself, at home in the driveway.
But what did Karlie wear? “She wore flats and a deep orange dress that we can only guess came from some hot designer, while Smith rented his tux from Men’s Wearhouse because he had a $40 off coupon.” Flats! We love that. And while we can’t figure out just who made her dress (if you can, tell us in the comments!), she’s worn Jason Wu and Oscar de la Renta to past dances (and she wore Dior to last week’s Met Gala). We hope Karlie and Gabe had the loveliest of nights, danced the night away (maybe to Nelly!), and grabbed some Steak ‘n’ Shake on the way home.
Their adorable prom picture can be found below. How did the Post get a copy? Well, Gabe’s dad works for the paper: “In the interest of full disclosure, Smith is the son of STLtoday.com’s online sports editor, Mike Smith. He is the seventh of seven kids and known to his siblings by the nickname, ‘Da Angel.'” Bahhhh, so cute.
