St. James’ Palace announced today that Kate and Prince William are expecting their first child. According to the Daily Telegraph, Kate was admitted into the King Edward VII Hospital “with acute morning sickness and is expected to stay in hospital for several days.” The Guardian reports that Kate’s not yet 12 weeks into the pregnancy. Per the palace’s statement on the Royals’ official website:
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.
The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.
Hyperemesis Gravidarum is very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients.
Ever since Wills and Kate said “I do” last year, there’s been more speculation and rumors of her pregnancy than we can count. But a Royal baby is indeed on the way and it looks like the happy parents to-be are moving into Kensington Palace next year. Naturally, everyone (including us!) is quite ecstatic about the news — Prime Minister David Cameron even tweeted: “I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents.” (Well, duh.)
We unofficially called it last week after spotting Kate in a series of fancy coats that hid her belly. She even wore the coats indoors! And Kate tried to trick us with her new bangs — what a sneak. Anyway, a huge congratulations to the lovely couple, and let the baby name guessing games begin!
