Learning to be a princess is hard work, so Kate Middleton has been hidden behind the palace gates these past few months brushing up on a very specialized set of regal skills. None of the lessons has had anything to do with fashion, but hey — it’s not like she needs that, does she?
Instead, The Daily Telegraph reports that the newly minted duchess has been meeting with government officials in a rigorous curriculum “designed to prepare her for everything that her official life will throw at her over the decades to come.”
So what is she taking? She’s learning how the British Empire works, from its government to its economy to its, well, everything — and she’s getting a crash course in how to manage it all from the perspective of a senior member of the empire’s most important family. Per a palace rep:
“The Duchess is being briefed on how the State works, getting to know our national institutions better and learning more about organisations such as the arts, the media and the government.
“It is a process that will carry on for several months but is being done privately … As well as meetings at St James’s Palace, the Duchess is spending time carrying out private research of her own.”
That research includes deciding which charities she’ll choose to support. Traditionally members of the family attach themselves to charities they support for a lifetime, but Kate is said to favor “project based” support of a variety of charities. To which we say: Share the wealth, Kate. Share the wealth.
