Although the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge was discharged from the hospital Thursday following a severe bout of morning sickness, she’s fallen ill a second time, and Prince William cancelled an engagement he had tonight in order to stay at home with her.
The illness that Kate has been struggling with is called hyperemesis gravidarum, a type of morning sickness that causes nausea, vomiting, fainting, and dehydration. It occurs in less than 1 percent of women, and it frequently comes back. It’s a difficult time for the couple — especially following the suicide of Jacintha Saldanha, who patched two radio DJs’ prank call through to Kate’s nurse — but it seems that Will is trying to keep his sense of humor. Just yesterday, while going stag at a gala, he joked:
“I don’t know why they call it morning sickness — they should call it all day and all night sickness. [Recovery is] a long old process but she is getting there. She feels like it is going to go on forever.”
The Palace has said that in order to protect Kate’s privacy it does not intend to release information about routine developments, but we hope she feels better soon!
