Sneakerheads have even more competition for the next kicks du jour. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Kylie Minougue have each designed limited edition adidas trainers, which means that the sample sale shopping fashion junkies will be unleashed - and we know that this can yield some serious destruction. The good news is that the wearable art will actually be going under the hammer online for non profit organization Platform 6 benefitting civil rights charity Stonewall, which means that there will be no lines around the block à la Nike’s Air Yeezy II circa 2012.
Moss revamped the classic tennis shoe, which was named after former World No. 1 American tennis player Stan Smith, by adorning the laces with neon tubing that spells out her name, as it “emulates recent works of many contemporary artists.”
Never one to shy away from spectacle, Campbell took the sneaker’s tongues and plastered them with images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. What’s more, the shoes come with two golden skeleton legs. So yeah, they might be the frontrunner for us (pun very much intended).
Minogue went cheeky, using her kicks as if they were a tour bus cork board with cartoon button pins, VIP bracelets and passes, as well as beaded gold necklaces. Other stars who will be channeling their creative energy into the trainers include Sir Elton John and Boy George, and we have a feeling that if anyone can upstage these tongue-in-cheek designs, it’s those boy.
The designs are available for online auction beginning today, with a not-too-eye-watering £200 as the minimum starting bid. Brits, you’ll be able view these beauties in person as they will be on display in London’s Bargehouse from September 7 to the auction’s end date, September 14.
Now, feast your eyes on these pumped up kicks and imagine Roger Federer wearing them on the courts of Arthur Ashe Stadium. Just kidding, Anna would not be having it.
