PHOTOS: Katy Perry Accused Of Copying Dita Von Teese For VF Cover

When we first saw Katy Perry’s June cover for Vanity Fair, we thought she looked gorgeous. A lot like Dita von Teese, but gorgeous nonetheless. Apparently we weren’t the only people to think that, and now some are accusing Perry, the magazine, and cover photographer Annie Leibovitz of ripping off a specific von Teese pose.

Writes the New York Post:

Perry’s provocative pose on the cover of the June issue, shot by famed photographer Annie Liebovitz and styled by the magazine’s fashion and style director Jessica Diehl, has sparked whispers that the pop star is ripping off burlesque star von Teese’s style.

The cover image is reminiscent of a photo taken of von Teese at a photocall for the launch of her Wonderbra collection in 2008. And while we love Ms. von Teese, it wouldn’t be particularly accurate to call that pose, hair, or styling particularly original; it’s a pretty textbook pinup look. Either way, von Teese isn’t at all upset — she calls Perry a friend and says she knew of Perry’s plans to emulate her look — which makes the New York Post’s piece a kind of non-story… except for the fact that in another image from the magazine’s spread, Perry is wearing the same dress Karolina Kurkova wore to the Met Gala.

While clearly coincidental (Perry’s shoot would have happened months before Kurkova even tried on a dress for the Gala), it does beg the question: who wore either of those looks better? Take a look below and tell us what you think.
